Richmond Rockson, Communications Spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy, has lauded the government’s decision to cut fuel prices, describing it as a clear demonstration of its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Ghanaians. In an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, April 15, Mr. Rockson emphasized that the reduction was a response to global economic challenges and highlighted the Mahama administration’s people-centered governance.
“This is clear evidence that the Mahama government is focused on the needs of its people,” he remarked.
The government’s move to ease the burden on consumers comes amid rising global fuel prices. Starting April 16, 2026, the state will absorb GH¢2 per litre on diesel and GH¢0.36 per litre on petrol, providing temporary relief to households, transport operators, and businesses struggling with rising costs.
Mr. Rockson stressed that when international economic shocks threaten the livelihoods of citizens, a responsible government must intervene, and this policy reflects the administration’s commitment to protecting Ghanaians.
The temporary fuel price cuts will remain in effect for one month, with authorities set to monitor global oil price trends to assess whether additional measures are needed. This intervention is part of broader efforts to ensure price stability and support the country’s economic recovery.
