Government has rejected a GH¢20 million support package offered by MTN Ghana for Ghanaians affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
The donation was intended to support Ghanaian returnees following reports of attacks and challenges faced by some citizens living in South Africa.
However, government declined the offer, explaining that the situation requires a coordinated national response rather than direct corporate intervention.
Authorities say they appreciate MTN Ghana’s gesture but believe there are existing structures and arrangements for handling support for affected citizens.
The decision has generated discussions on the role of private companies in responding to national emergencies and supporting citizens in crisis situations.
Government has assured that it remains committed to protecting the interests and welfare of Ghanaians both within the country and abroad.
