President John Dramani Mahama has signed the Tribunals Act, 2026, into law, giving legal backing to the establishment of regional and district tribunals as part of reforms in Ghana’s justice system.
The President’s assent forms part of a broader signing of 10 Bills passed by Parliament, covering areas including justice administration, taxation, revenue mobilisation, energy and other sectors.
The Tribunals Act, 2026, provides the legal framework for the establishment of tribunals in line with constitutional provisions. The law is expected to create additional avenues for handling cases and improve access to justice.
The government says the new legislation will strengthen the justice delivery system and help address delays in the courts.
The passage and signing of the law followed weeks of debate in Parliament, with the Majority arguing that the tribunals will improve efficiency in justice administration, while the Minority raised concerns about the possible impact on Ghana’s judicial system.
With the President’s assent, the relevant institutions can now begin processes towards implementing the provisions of the new law.
