President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated a committee to oversee the implementation of the GH¢1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund aimed at restoring development and economic activities in the conflict-affected area.
The five-member committee, chaired by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has been tasked with guiding the implementation of projects under the fund. Other members include Mahama Ayariga, Chief of Tempane Cletus Abugri, Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga and Garu MP Thomas Anaba Winsum.
President Mahama said the fund is expected to support infrastructure development and other interventions aimed at rebuilding Bawku and surrounding communities.
According to him, the improving security situation in Bawku has created an opportunity for government to return with development projects and restore essential services that were affected by the prolonged conflict.
The President noted that the conflict disrupted the provision of healthcare, education and other public services, making it difficult for government workers and professionals to operate in the area.
He expressed confidence that the committee will manage the fund with integrity and ensure that the benefits reach communities within the Bawku area.
