The much-anticipated 24-hour economy market project for Buduburam took a significant step forward today as the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom, officially handed over the site to the contractor in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a transformative development for the area.
The ceremony, held in front of the St. Gregory Catholic Hospital, was attended by key stakeholders, including local government officials, party members, and community leaders. It was a moment of great pride for the people of Buduburam, who have long awaited the implementation of this promise made by the President.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Margaret Naana Ackom expressed deep satisfaction in seeing the project come to life. “This is not just a market; this is a symbol of our president’s commitment to the people of Buduburam. This 24-hour economy market will not only transform the local economy but also create numerous job opportunities for our people, especially for our NDC faithfuls,” she said. The DCE emphasized that the market would be a catalyst for boosting economic activities and providing a modern space for local commerce, with the potential to change the community’s fortunes.
She further highlighted that this development was in line with the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, ensuring that the people of Buduburam will see tangible benefits. “The 24-hour market will provide a thriving environment for traders, foster economic growth, and offer job opportunities that will directly impact the youth,” Hon. Ackom added.

Joshua Akamba, the former National Organizer of the NDC, also spoke at the event, underscoring the additional positive impacts the 24-hour economy market would bring to Buduburam. Akamba, a well-respected figure within the NDC, highlighted the importance of the project in addressing local youth unemployment.
“This project is not just about a marketplace,” Akamba began. “It’s about creating sustainable opportunities for our young people. The 24-hour market will generate jobs in various sectors, and more importantly, it will provide a solid foundation for future generations.”
He went on to reveal that the development would include key community infrastructure, including a daycare center, a small clinic, a fire service center, and a police station. “These facilities are vital to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people who will work and live in this area. This is not only a commercial space but a community hub that will serve everyone in Buduburam,” Akamba said, urging the youth to take advantage of the opportunities the project would provide.

Habib Hakeem, the Central Regional Council of State Member, also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to the President for fulfilling his promise regarding the 24-hour economy market. “The President has shown that his commitment to development is not just words, but actions. This market will not only boost the economy here but will also open up a wealth of job opportunities for the youth, particularly in Gomoa East and Buduburam,” Hakeem said.
He emphasized that the project would have a long-term positive impact on the region, providing sustainable livelihoods for the youth and helping to reduce unemployment rates. “This is a great day for our people,” Hakeem concluded, urging the community to fully embrace the opportunities that will come with the market’s completion.

The official handover of the site signals the beginning of a new chapter for Buduburam, one that promises greater economic stability and prosperity for its residents. With the contractor now on site and preparations underway, the people of Buduburam are optimistic about the positive changes the 24-hour economy market will bring.
