President Mahama Prays for Peace Amid Middle East Tensions

On the evening of March 16, 2026, the Jubilee House in Accra hosted members of Ghana’s Muslim community for Iftar, the sacred meal that breaks the daily fast during Ramadan. The atmosphere was filled with reverence, unity, and hope as families and leaders gathered to share in this special occasion.

Yet, amid the celebration, a shadow of global concern loomed. Tensions in the Middle East had escalated, with the United States, Israel, and Iran locked in a conflict that threatened regional stability and drew the attention of the entire world. Leaders and citizens alike watched with unease as fears of a wider confrontation grew.

Addressing the gathering, President John Dramani Mahama spoke with earnestness and compassion, acknowledging the anxiety felt worldwide. “We are all concerned about what is happening in the Middle East,” he said. “The conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran is not only affecting the Middle East, but the whole world.”

With a voice rooted in faith, he extended a heartfelt prayer:

“We pray that Allah will touch the hearts of everyone involved in this conflict and bring peace to the region.”

President Mahama urged not only the Muslim faithful but all people of goodwill to use the Ramadan period for prayer, reflection, and intercession for peace. He emphasized that religious devotion should be accompanied by empathy, respect, and the recognition of the dignity of every human life.

As the evening concluded and participants broke their fast with shared meals, the message was clear: in times of global uncertainty, hope and prayer remain powerful tools capable not only of comforting hearts but also inspiring actions toward reconciliation and peace.
