Police Arrest 12 Cyber Fraudsters for Impersonating MPs, Ministers, and CEOs to Defraud Others

The police have conducted a successful cyber-intelligence operation resulting in the arrest of twelve suspects and pursuit of over 25 others for their involvement in cyber-related crimes.

According to a statement by the police, the criminal syndicate’s modus operandi involves impersonating or hacking into the social media accounts of prominent individuals, including government officials and corporate entities, to scam unsuspecting victims. The suspects promised the victims jobs, scholarships, fake promotional advertisements, and products among other things, defrauding them of various sums of money.

During the operation, the police took down 973 fake social media accounts created by the suspects in the names of prominent individuals and corporate entities. Of the fake accounts, 785 were in the names of Members of Parliament, 62 in the names of security officials, and 136 for Ministers of State, Ambassadors, and heads of institutions.

 

The police also recovered 32 mobile phones, 3 laptops, and 54 SIM cards used by the suspects in committing the crimes.

The police have institutionalized their operation to clamp down on cyber-related crimes, and they urge anyone who has fallen victim to the crimes mentioned to contact a dedicated number, 0249850601, for further police action.

 

The twelve suspects, including Gideon Kove alias Billions, Felicia Nanewortor, Carl Kristal, Safari Zatey, and Eric Acquah alias Cent Mona, are currently assisting with the investigation and will be put before the court to face justice.
