Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, the Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has committed to the rigorous enforcement of sanitation laws within the metropolis, following a series of targeted interventions.

The move follows a previous media announcement of a ban on unsanitary practices in Kumasi’s Central Business District (CBD) and surrounding areas.

In an interview with Citi News on April 22, during a monitoring tour to assess adherence to the new sanitation rules, Mr. Ofori-Agyemang Boadi observed visible improvements in the cleanliness of the city.

He noted that many traders were seen actively cleaning their designated spaces in line with the KMA’s sanitation directives. He also remarked that the volume of refuse has decreased significantly, with most measures showing positive results.

Despite the improvements, the mayor expressed concerns about the continued presence of hawkers on the pavements. He acknowledged that while pavement trading is not ideal, efforts are underway to offer these traders permanent spaces for their businesses.

Additionally, the Mayor instructed traders selling slippers and shoes to vacate the entrances of Kejetia Market and the Kumadi Zoo area. He emphasized that non-compliance with these directives would result in arrests.
