Adjei Samuel Oko, a Ghanaian, has accused Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of incompetence and questioned his ability to lead the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election. In a scathing indictment of Bawumia’s leadership, Oko cited the government’s failure to deliver on key promises as evidence of a lack of competence and vision.
“Dr. Bawumia claims to be a competent economist and a visionary leader, yet under his watch, Ghana has experienced rising inflation, a stagnant economy, and a lack of progress in critical areas such as job creation and healthcare,” Oko said in a statement. “His promises of prosperity and progress have proven to be empty rhetoric, and the people of Ghana deserve better than this.”
Oko’s criticism of the government’s track record comes amid growing dissatisfaction among Ghanaians with the state of the economy and the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have expressed frustration with what they see as a lack of leadership and direction from the ruling party.
Bawumia, for his part, has defended the government’s record, citing efforts to stabilize the currency, reduce inflation, and attract foreign investment. However, his detractors argue that these gains have come at a high cost to ordinary Ghanaians, who continue to struggle with high food prices, low wages, and poor access to healthcare and education.
As the 2024 election approaches, Bawumia’s competence and leadership will likely continue to be a subject of intense debate and scrutiny. While some believe that he has the vision and experience needed to lead Ghana into a new era of prosperity and progress, others argue that his track record as vice president is insufficient evidence of his ability to deliver on his promises and provide effective governance for all Ghanaians. Ultimately, it will be up to the voters to decide which candidate they believe is best equipped to lead the country forward.
