The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing. Julius Kpekpena, has reassured consumers that the country now has enough power generation to meet current demand, following the resolution of recent technical and supply issues.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, May 3, 2026, he confirmed that load shedding was stopped earlier than expected, even before two additional generators were fully synchronized with the national grid.

“We stopped load shedding on Wednesday, ahead of schedule, before the last two generators were even synchronized,” Ing. Kpekpena stated. “We now have sufficient power to meet our customers’ needs, with a demand of around 4,300 megawatts. Our system is stable and capable of sustaining nationwide electricity supply.”

He explained that this progress is a result of addressing previous challenges, including distribution-level issues in some regions and a temporary gas supply problem in April. He also mentioned the recent fire incident at the Akosombo Dam, assuring the public that all these issues have been resolved.

However, Ing. Kpekpena acknowledged that some localized distribution challenges persist in certain areas, but assured consumers that ECG is actively working to resolve them for consistent and reliable power delivery across the country.

The update brings hope for businesses and consumers who have faced intermittent outages in recent months, as ECG works to stabilize and strengthen Ghana’s power distribution system.
