Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey has been named Brighton and Hove Albion’s Player of the Match in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Monday evening.

The 24-year-old ended the year in style after scoring a stunning goal to salvage a point for the visitors at Villa Park.

Lamptey, who played full throttle, beat competition from Simon Adingra, Van Hecke, and Carlos Baleba for the award after getting over 52 per cent of votes from the fans.

Meanwhile, in a thrilling encounter on Monday evening, Right to Dream Academy graduate Simon Adingra opened the scoring for the visitors but Aston Villa responded before the break.

Two minutes into the second half, Morgan Rogers gave the hosts the lead before Lamptey sealed a magnificent performance with a belter nine minutes from time.

“We’d like to have nicked it at the end, but after we got back on level terms it felt like a fair result,” he said after the 2-2 draw.

“For the goal I just arrived on the edge of the box and it fell nicely for me and it was great to see it hit the back of the net.

“The changes we made helped. We know we have got quality players who can come off the bench and make a difference.”
