Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and widely known as Napo, has advised nursing trainees to carefully consider the potential risks of bringing former President John Dramani Mahama and Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang back to office.
Dr. Prempeh emphasized that the duo previously oversaw the cancellation of nursing trainees’ allowances prior to 2016, a policy he claims placed financial strain on students. He highlighted that, although allowance disbursements may occasionally face delays, it’s preferable to the complete removal experienced under Mahama’s administration.
After visiting Pantang Nurses Training College, Napo shared his thoughts on social media, stating, “At the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College, support for the NPP’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, remains unwavering. Like their peers at Korle Bu, they understand the risks associated with returning to the leadership of someone who previously canceled their allowances and pledged not to restore them, even if it cost him the presidency.”
The nursing trainees reportedly see the 2024 election as pivotal for Ghana’s future. They are placing their faith in Dr. Bawumia, trusting he will return after four years to account for his leadership. In contrast, they worry about a leader who might cancel their allowances again and implement strict policies without future accountability.
With these students actively supporting the NPP, Napo believes this endorsement will translate into votes for the party on December 7.
