Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has expressed concerns about potential bias in the handling of cases involving members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He claims that these cases are being systematically directed to a specific court in Accra.

Awuah’s remarks come in the wake of the recent granting of bail to the Sunyani East Communications Officer of the NPP, Abubakar Yakubu (known as Baba Amando), by the High Court of Ghana, General Jurisdiction 2. Baba Amando, who had been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court 9, was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties and was ordered to report to the police every two weeks as investigations into his case continue.

Yakubu was initially remanded on April 14, 2026, following his arrest on April 13. He is under investigation for alleged offensive conduct, false publication, and the circulation of statements considered likely to cause fear and panic. Awuah, who also serves as Yakubu’s counsel, argued that his client only shared memes—a common aspect of political discourse in Ghana—which, according to him, did not warrant detention. Despite this, the court decided to remand him.

In his appearance on Citi Prime News on April 17, 2026, Awuah raised further questions about the consistency of legal proceedings in similar cases, citing the case of Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, who faced a similar situation under the same court. He criticized the trend, asking, “Why do all these cases end up in the same court? How come the previous judge was promoted after handling Abronye’s case in a particular manner, and now the new judge seems to be following the same pattern?”

Awuah’s comments have sparked political interest, as many are watching how the case unfolds. Yakubu’s arrest is part of broader investigations into alleged offenses involving political figures, with ongoing scrutiny from stakeholders as the legal proceedings progress.
