Athletic Bilbao’s head coach, Ernesto Valverde, has confirmed that Inaki Williams will be unavailable for Ghana’s last two qualifying matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The 30-year-old forward recently suffered a left hamstring injury, which kept him out of Bilbao’s 1-1 draw against Real Valladolid.
Williams was initially named in Ghana’s 25-man squad set to face Angola and Niger but will now miss both games due to his injury. Coach Valverde shared, “I don’t think he’ll be able to play this time because he hasn’t been able to be here with us.”
The Black Stars squad is scheduled to open camp in Accra today, with their first training session at 17:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, which will be open to the public. On Tuesday, they will train behind closed doors before heading to Luanda on Wednesday.
Currently sitting in third place in Group F with only two points from four matches, Ghana faces a challenging path to AFCON qualification. They will play Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home match against Niger on November 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
