At least two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured after armed men ambushed a passenger bus traveling from the Bawku West District to Kumasi on Saturday.

The attack occurred along the Walewale – Nasia stretch of the Bolgatanga–Tamale highway in the West Mamprugu District . Eyewitnesses say the bus, with registration number AS 4941-24, came under heavy gunfire, with multiple bullet holes visible on the vehicle.

Following the incident, the Kusaug Youth Movement, KYM, has condemned Saturday’s deadly gun attack on a Kumasi-bound bus along the Nalerigu–Walewale highway and called for swift government action.

In a statement, the youth group described the ambush, which left two dead and several injured, as part of repeated attacks on the Bolgatanga–Tamale corridor.

KYM further alleged that the attack was not the first of its kind in Nasia and claimed that some prominent leaders, including a Member of Parliament, had previously appeared on television advocating and calling for mobilization to attack people.

The group is demanding that government and security agencies question those leaders to establish their role, if any, in the violence.

According to the group ,the people went unpunished last time. And they believe these attacks are encouraged by such utterances, a KYM spokesperson said.

There are therefore calling on the Interior Minister to impose a curfew and a ban on motorbikes in Walewale and Nasia. The group say attacks on the highway have become frequent and urgent measures are needed to protect travelers on the ECOWAS corridor.

In response to the incident, the Inspector General of Police IGP has deployed an anti-robbery unit to the area to track down the perpetrators and restore security.

Tension remains high along the Nasia–Bolgatanga–Walewale–Tamale corridor, with passengers and drivers expressing fear over repeated attacks on that stretch.
