Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team has shown remarkable resilience and growth, securing qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing after a stellar performance at the World Athletics Relays in Botswana.
The team, comprising Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Amoah, and Edwin Gadayi, delivered when it mattered most. They finished second in Heat 1 of the repechage with a time of 38.09 seconds, securing their place in Beijing. This achievement not only earned them qualification but also showcased the team’s ability to bounce back under pressure.
Ghana had faced a setback the previous day, narrowly missing automatic qualification. On Saturday, May 2, they placed fourth in Heat 3 with a time of 38.19 seconds—a solid effort but not enough to meet the qualification mark. For many teams, such a disappointment could have dampened spirits. However, Ghana returned to the track on Sunday with renewed focus and determination, and their performance reflected this shift.
From the first leg of the race, the team showed noticeable improvements in rhythm and coordination. The baton exchanges, often a make-or-break aspect of relay races, were executed with precision, allowing the team to maintain momentum. Each runner contributed their part effectively, blending speed with discipline to deliver a confident and composed performance.
This marks Ghana’s fourth qualification for the men’s 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Championships, highlighting the country’s continued progress in sprinting. More importantly, it reflects a team that is learning, adapting, and evolving with each competition.
As preparations for Beijing 2027 begin, expectations will rise, but with this performance as a foundation, Ghana’s relay team is not just aiming to qualify—they are positioning themselves as serious contenders on the world stage.
