Three Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, and Accra Lions, will be impacted by the National Sports Authority’s recent decision to close the Accra Sports Stadium for maintenance.

This closure, which also affects the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, is part of an ongoing effort to upgrade these venues to meet international standards. The decision comes in the wake of last week’s directive from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) banning the Baba Yara Sports Stadium from hosting CAF/FIFA senior international matches due to its poor pitch conditions.

As a result, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC, and Accra Lions, who use the Accra Sports Stadium for their home games, are now searching for alternative venues. In the meantime, Hearts of Oak and Accra Lions may relocate to the WAFA Park or the University of Ghana Stadium, while Dreams FC is considering either the Tuba AstroTurf in Kasoa or the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu.

On the other hand, Asante Kotoko has decided to move its home matches to the Len Clay Sports Stadium following the closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

It is still unclear how long the maintenance work will take.
