The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has mandated that all individuals applying for employment in agencies under the Ministry of Education must submit their academic credentials for verification as part of the recruitment process. This new directive follows the clearance granted for recruitment into the Ministry’s agencies, highlighting the need for rigorous validation of qualifications before appointments are made.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, GTEC emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of applicants’ certificates, including diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees, and PhDs. The Commission urged applicants to ensure their credentials are submitted for evaluation to confirm their legitimacy.

The directive aims to combat the growing issue of fraudulent certificates and qualifications, particularly those from unaccredited or unrecognized institutions. With this move, GTEC seeks to protect the integrity of the recruitment process and uphold the standards of the education sector.

As part of its mandate under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), GTEC is responsible for accrediting both public and private tertiary institutions and validating academic credentials. The Commission emphasized that certificate verification will be a key component of the recruitment exercise to ensure that only qualified and certified individuals are employed in the education sector.

GTEC has urged all prospective applicants to take the directive seriously, as the verification process is integral to maintaining the credibility and quality of Ghana’s education system.
