The Ghana Scholarships Authority has announced the release of first-quarter funds to clear outstanding scholarship arrears owed to Ghanaian students studying abroad. In a statement dated April 16 and signed by its Director-General, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, the Authority confirmed that the funds will be used to settle delayed payments of stipends and tuition fees, with a particular focus on beneficiaries in the United Kingdom and other countries.

This intervention is part of broader efforts by the government to gradually eliminate the backlog of unpaid obligations and restore stability to the scholarship scheme. The Authority acknowledged the difficulties faced by affected students and expressed regret for the inconveniences caused by the delays.

Recent reports have highlighted that many Ghanaian students, especially in the UK, have experienced significant delays in receiving financial support. Some students have reported facing academic and financial challenges due to unpaid fees and stipends, leading to urgent calls for government action.

According to the statement, the funds will undergo the necessary administrative and financial management processes before being disbursed to the beneficiaries. The Authority reassured students that it is collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure payments are processed promptly and that similar delays are avoided in the future.

Beneficiaries have been urged to remain patient and continue their academic activities while efforts are underway to resolve all outstanding obligations.

The Authority reiterated the government’s commitment to the welfare of Ghanaian students abroad, emphasizing that the release of these funds reflects a renewed focus on addressing long-standing issues within the scholarship system. They also expressed gratitude to the affected students for their patience and cooperation during the delay, promising ongoing support moving forward.
