Ghana’s Fuel Reserves Secure Despite Middle East Tensions – NPA

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has assured the public that Ghana’s fuel reserves are sufficient, despite rising tensions in the Middle East.

Abass Ibrahim Tasunti, Director of Economic Regulation at the NPA, confirmed that Ghana’s diesel stock will last about 5.3 weeks, and petrol for 6.8 weeks. He emphasized that these reserves are part of routine planning, not a response to the ongoing geopolitical crisis.

The Sentuo Oil Refinery and Atuabo Gas Processing Plant are consistently supplying the market, and additional shipments are arriving soon. However, the NPA acknowledged that Ghana, as a net importer, could still face global market disruptions.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) warned that the Middle East tensions could lead to higher fuel prices, as traders account for geopolitical risks in their pricing decisions. Global crude prices have already risen above $91 per barrel due to the unrest.
