After CAF’s ban on Baba Yara Stadium for international fixtures, Ghana’s Black Stars may need to secure an alternative venue for their upcoming matches.

CAF’s recent decision to ban Baba Yara Stadium from hosting international matches, following several technical infractions during the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier between Ghana and Angola on September 5, 2024, has left the Black Stars searching for a new venue.

Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana’s neighbor with several CAF-approved stadiums, has emerged as a top candidate to host the Ghanaian national team for their upcoming fixtures.

With Côte d’Ivoire’s geographical proximity and historical ties to Ghana, the nation offers a practical and convenient solution for the Ghana Football Association. The quality and infrastructure of Ivorian stadiums present an ideal option for the Black Stars to continue their international campaign without disruption.

While the final decision on the Black Stars’ temporary home ground is still pending, Côte d’Ivoire is currently seen as the leading option.

As Ghana works to resolve the issues at Baba Yara Stadium and other local venues, Côte d’Ivoire’s stadiums may provide a crucial stopgap, allowing the Black Stars to maintain their competitive edge.

Ghana’s next international break will feature a double-header against Sudan in October 2024 as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
