A 31-year-old farmer, Isaac Atimbisa, has been sentenced to eight months in prison by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court for stealing foodstuffs in Sepaase, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
Atimbisa was caught stealing six bunches of plantains and two sacks of cassava, valued at GH¢350, from a local farm. He was preparing to transport the stolen goods for sale when he was apprehended.
The convict pleaded guilty and was sentenced by Mrs. Philomina Asiedu, the presiding judge, based on his own admission.
According to Police Inspector Evans Baaba Ayimbisa, who led the prosecution, the complainant, Joseph Amankwah, a mason living in Sepaase, saw Atimbisa with the stolen items by the roadside on October 12 at around 1:40 p.m.
Amankwah became suspicious and, with the help of some neighbors, confronted Atimbisa. The farmer admitted to the theft and was handed over to the Sepaase Police. During questioning, he confessed and led the police to the farm where the theft occurred.
Following investigations, Atimbisa was charged and brought before the court for sentencing.
