The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has blocked more than 15,000 electricity meters in Nsawam and Amasaman as part of an ongoing revenue assurance initiative. The action, which has been taking place over the past two weeks, targets meters suspected to have been installed outside of ECG’s approved procedures.
The move is aimed at tackling revenue leaks caused by unauthorized or improperly documented connections. Affected customers have been instructed to visit ECG’s project office, located behind the VVIP bus terminal at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra’s Central Business District, to regularize their connections.
As a result of the blockage, many customers are unable to recharge their meters once their existing credit runs out, causing disruptions in their power supply. To restore their meters, customers will need to pay approximately GH¢2,053.60, covering administrative, application, and quotation fees.
This exercise is part of ECG’s broader strategy to improve revenue collection and enforce compliance with its operational standards. The company has pledged to intensify its monitoring efforts to prevent further irregularities.
