Tomato traders in Dormaa Ahenkro, located in the Bono Region, have expressed concerns regarding the potential collapse of their businesses following the Burkina Faso government’s ban on tomato exports to other countries, including Ghana. Several traders have lamented that the tomato trade serves as the sole source of income for their families, and if this issue is not promptly addressed, it will have a significant impact on both the traders and the entire citizenry of the country.

Some of the traders have suggested that the government of Ghana and the Ministry of Agriculture should take proactive measures to support tomato farmers locally in producing larger quantities of tomatoes. This support would help traders sustain their businesses and prevent potential food security issues in Ghana.

Some market vendors, who were recently relocated adjacent to NAB1 to pave the way for the construction of a 24-hour economy model market at Dormaa Ahenkro’s Tuesday Market, remain perplexed by the Assembly’s decision. This decision involves dividing the market into two sections, with some traders remaining at the existing Tuesday Market area while others have been instructed to move to NAB1 Park. This division has adversely affected their business activities.

The traders are urging the Assembly to relocate all traders to NAB1 Park to ensure equal access to customers, thereby enhancing their business prospects. The traders have expressed that if the Assembly fails to consolidate all traders at NAB1 Park in the coming days, they will feel compelled to return to their original location to continue their trade, as the current location is not conducive to business.
