Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere, the Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya South, has refuted claims that he was chased away by angry constituents following the death of a resident.

A video circulating online showed the MP being escorted by the police amidst an angry crowd during a visit to his constituency.

The anger of the crowd stemmed from the recovery of the body of a 57-year-old man, John Kwame Asumang, who drowned after attempting to cross a bridge during heavy rains.

The residents attributed the incident to the poor condition of the roads and the broken bridge in the area.

In an interview on Eyewitness News, Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere clarified that he was hooted at by his constituents and not chased away as reported.

He described the claims of being chased away as misleading and expressed appreciation for the concerns of the angry residents. He also extended his sympathies to the bereaved family.

The MP acknowledged that the bridge in question had become impassable due to flooding during rains. He explained that he had been contacted by the Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joe Owusu, who informed him about the agitation at the bridge following the motor rider’s death.

Hon Agyei Anhwere had gone to the site to have a discussion with the police and find a solution to the problem.

He clarified, “I wasn’t chased away or pelted with stones. The police escorted me to my car and I drove away.” While he acknowledged that there was a splash of water, he denied being targeted by any stones.

The MP also expressed frustration over the unsuccessful attempts to get the bridge repaired, despite his efforts.
