President Mahama must walk the Talk by Sanctioning Ghana Free Zones CEO – Political Analyst

Mr. Samuel Boateng, a Political Analyst, has urged the President to impose sanctions on the CEO of Ghana Free Zones, Dr. Mary Awusi, due to her public outburst directed at the Church of Pentecost Chairman, Apostle Eric Nyamekye. The incident pertains to comments made by Apostle Nyamekye regarding the destruction of water bodies caused by illegal mining activities, known as “galamsey,” which have hindered baptism ceremonies in certain districts affected by such activities.

Mr. Samuel Boateng has referenced President Mahama’s initial address during the swearing-in of his first batch of ministers, wherein he emphasized the importance of respecting individuals in positions of authority and the citizens who elected them. Furthermore, in May 2025, President Mahama launched a Code of Conduct for his appointees, explicitly warning them to respect Ghanaians and those in authority or face strict penalties, including dismissal, for any acts of disrespect.

Speaking on Gifts FM Morning Show, Mr. Samuel Boateng asserted that the time has come for the President to uphold his commitments by ensuring that Dr. Mary Awusi is appropriately sanctioned for her public display of disrespect towards the Pentecost Chairman’s innocuous remarks concerning the galamsey issue. Such action would serve as a deterrent to other appointees and reinforce the President’s image as a leader who stands by his principles.

Regarding the issues of ongoing illegal mining activities (galamsey), power outages (dumsor), network difficulties, and other significant challenges within the country, Mr. Samuel Boateng expressed that Ghanaian politicians tend not to resolve problems but rather manage them in such a way that they can be utilized as political campaign messages to exploit Ghanaian citizens for political gain. He urged politicians to recognize the country’s challenges, cultivate the political will to address these issues, and emphasized that once this is accomplished, many problems will be resolved. Moreover, he stressed the importance of Ghanaians moving beyond partisan politics and holding politicians accountable for unfulfilled promises.

Mr. Samuel Boateng expressed criticism towards politicians for their ongoing disrespect towards the citizens of Ghana. He asserted that neither politicians nor political parties genuinely consider the welfare of the citizens, only showing concern during election periods. Post-elections, they allegedly suppress freedom of speech and retaliate against individuals who voice opposition to poor governance decisions, as evidenced by the recent attack on the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost by a government appointee.

Mr. Boateng emphasized that politics should involve the democratic exchange of ideas rather than reprimanding individuals for expressing their perspectives, which are intended to enhance democratic practices within the country. He underscored that politicians should focus on resolving national issues instead of targeting citizens for articulating their opinions.
