Before she was referred we were told to allow for a cesarean surgery to save both the baby and the mother. But when we told the nurses at Mother And Child Hospital they said the recovery ward was fully occupied so they can’t perform the surgery. They told us she will deliver. We arrived between 2 and 3am but they gave her no medication. She was lying in pain and even when she personally requested for the CS they didn’t mind her.
A pregnant woman in labor has died after the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa denied her request for a caesarian section due to the lack of a bed in its ward.
The deceased, Opoku Abigail, according to her sister had initially attended a private health facility for delivery but was referred to the Mother And Child Hospital when the delivery delayed.
At the Mother And Child Hospital, however, both the patient and relatives’ request for a caesarean section was flatly denied by hospital staff due to the lack of an empty bed in the recovery ward.
According to the family the patient died almost after 36 hours after arriving at the facility with the baby still in her womb and on the bare floor in the hospital’s delivery ward.
The death of Abigail which occurred on Sunday adds up to several other similar cases that have been reportedly happened at the Mother And Child Hospital.
A sister of the deceased is calling for a review of the facility’s operations as the family insists their relative could have been saved if their request a cesarean surgical operation was considered.

While the hospital is yet to respond to the issue, friends of the deceased have mounted a social media campaign demanding for a thorough investigations.
