Chief Imam Calls for Environmental Protection and Peace in Eid-ul-Fitr Messag

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has urged Muslims and all Ghanaians to prioritise environmental protection and peaceful coexistence during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

In his 2026 Eid message, Sheikh Sharubutu emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment, describing it as both a civic duty and a spiritual obligation in line with Islamic teachings.

Reflecting on the theme “Our Earth, Our Future,” he reminded believers of their role as stewards of the earth and stressed the need for responsible use of natural resources, which are considered divine blessings.

The Chief Imam condemned harmful practices such as illegal mining, sand winning, and deforestation, warning that these actions threaten ecological balance and the welfare of future generations.

He called on Muslim leaders, scholars, and community groups to increase efforts in educating and advocating for environmental protection, urging mosques and Islamic institutions to encourage responsible practices.

Additionally, Sheikh Sharubutu highlighted the importance of moral conduct, compassion, and unity, noting that true faith is reflected not only in worship but also in actions towards others and the environment.

Touching on global issues, he prayed for peace, especially in conflict zones such as the Middle East, and urged efforts for reconciliation and stability worldwide.

The Chief Imam concluded by offering prayers for Allah’s guidance, blessings, and protection for Ghana, calling for a renewed commitment to justice, compassion, and responsible living.
