The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested ten students of the Koforidua Technical University (KTU) for allegedly producing, distributing and selling cannabis-infused drinks and ice creams during the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Hall Week celebrations.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by NACOC as part of efforts to clamp down on the trafficking and use of illicit narcotic substances.
The suspects were arrested during the Hall Week festivities held from July 31 to August 1, 2026. NACOC said the alleged leader of the group, 23-year-old Priscilla Tetteh, was arrested together with nine other students while they were reportedly selling the cannabis-laced products to students and other attendees at the event.
According to the Commission, preliminary investigations indicate that the group had formed an organised network involved in the production, distribution and sale of the narcotic-infused consumables on campus.
NACOC described the arrest as a significant step towards dismantling what it believes is an emerging criminal activity that uses social events to promote the consumption of narcotic substances among young people.
The Commission reiterated that the production, possession, distribution and sale of food, beverages or other products containing illegal narcotic substances are prohibited under Ghanaian law.
It warned that individuals involved in such activities would face prosecution, while urging parents, school authorities, student leaders and the general public to support efforts to prevent drug-related activities in educational institutions.
NACOC also raised concerns about the growing practice of marketing narcotic substances as entertainment products or business ventures, stressing that schools must remain safe environments dedicated to learning.
The ten suspects are currently in NACOC custody and are expected to be processed according to the law.
