The family of Twum Kwaku and Akua Ayiwa has expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which authorities are addressing chieftaincy matters in Twumkurom, located in the Bono Region.
During a press conference on 24 February 2026 in Twumkrom, the family, represented by their spokesperson Mr. Innocent Stephen Yeboah, asserted that the legitimate royal lineage of the area belongs to Nana Twum Kwaku and his sister, Akua Ayiwa. He emphasized that royalty is a hereditary status and cannot be altered.
Mr. Yeboah explained that since the demise of their Queen Mother and the Chief of the area six years ago, the family has not been afforded the opportunity to install a new Queen Mother, as the position was purportedly allocated to another faction. He expressed concerns that similar circumstances might arise with the installation of a new chief. Consequently, the family initially sought an injunction to prevent the burial of the late chief. However, through the intervention of Nananom, they were persuaded to permit the burial after assurances were given that the unresolved chieftaincy issues would be addressed subsequently. He noted that since the burial, several developments have exacerbated their concerns.
Mr. Yeboah further elaborated that the family petitioned Nana Owusu Aduamire, the Abakomahene of TwumKurom, but the response was unsatisfactory. He stated that they then pursued other traditional avenues to seek redress. According to him, they were later invited to allow the burial of the late chief, with promises that arrangements would be made post-burial to resolve the chieftaincy dispute. He disclosed that on 13 October 2025, the family was summoned by the Akyempem Hene, who also serves as the Dormaa Akontanimhene. However, he noted that although the case was presented, it remained unresolved.
Mr. Yeboah is therefore appealing to Nananom to extend an invitation to the family for a fair hearing to address the Twumkrom chieftaincy matter. He emphasized that they have not yet been given the opportunity to present their perspective and alleged that all attempts to engage with Osagyefo have been obstructed.
On her part, Nana Abena Asaa Ababio Nana Mansah reiterated that royalty is inherited and cannot be abolished. She questioned whether traditional authorities intend to marginalize their royal family from the stool, insisting that eligible royals are still available to occupy the position. The family is urging traditional leaders to intervene and ensure a fair and transparent resolution of the Twumkrom chieftaincy issue.
