The Ministry of Health has secured approval for the payment of salary arrears owed to nurses and midwives posted in 2024/2025, bringing long-awaited relief to frontline health workers nationwide.

After extensive consultations with the Ministry of Finance, the government approved a structured plan to clear the arrears in four instalments from April to July. Under the arrangement, two months of arrears will be paid in April, three months in May, another three months in June, and the remaining three months in July.
The Ministry described the move as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to settling outstanding obligations responsibly and on time while maintaining fiscal discipline.
In a statement, the Ministry commended nurses and midwives for their patience, dedication, and continued service despite the delays, and expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Finance for prioritising and fast-tracking the process.
It added that the government remains committed to protecting the welfare and motivation of health workers in recognition of their crucial role in strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.
