A youg lady believed to be a Nigerian has questioned the practice of bride price in marriage traditions.
Im a video shared on X, she said, “God gave Adam a wife for free. I don’t know who brought the idea of bride price.
“Now some of our guys are due for marriage but have no money for bride price.
“Some of our girls are heading to 35 years. It’s not that men are not available, but they don’t have money for bride price.”
She argued that traditional expectations around bride price are keeping many women from marrying.
“You start where God stopped. Make you leave that bride price matter.
“Some of our girls today are getting old because of what? Bride price. It’s not that men are not there,” she added.
She also criticized some community practices that treat marriage as a transaction.
“You will see in some communities, if you want to marry their girls, they will give you a list full of requirements as if you are buying the girl.
“You are marrying a wife, not buying her. Make them change the idea of bride price. I beg, many girls are getting old in their father’s house because of this,” she stated.
