Minister for Education Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum has hinted that his ministry together with the Ghana Education Service(GES)  is set to launch a campaign against the increasing cases of teenage pregnancies in the country in schools

“We are going to campaign heavily on it. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has an office responsible for that job. We are going to invest and work on it”. The Minister revealed

He also sent a strong warning to men who lure teenage girls into sexual activities leading to what he described as a national problem that the law will deal with them if found.

“The law will also deal with those who will do that with the girl child. We won’t allow them to gamble with the future of our teenage girls. We can’t gamble with their future.” Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum warned in an interview with Kumasi-based Angel FM.

Speaking on strategies adopted by his Ministry to achieve this, he said, “We will also collaborate with the traditional leaders, committee members and Assembly Members to eradicate this menace”.

The Minister also indicated that there are measures put in place by the Ministry and the GES to allow girls who get pregnant to go back to school.

“We have regulations, though we are not encouraging them to engage in these things. However, in case they (the girl child) end up going wrong, the rule of the school allows, the child can come back to school to continue their education.
