The National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers (NASPAWAP) has announced an upcoming price increase for sachet water, attributing the hike to rising production costs caused by global supply chain disruptions.

Starting Monday, April 6, the new pricing structure will come into effect, following a significant surge in the cost of raw materials, particularly polymers, which are crucial for the production of sachet water. The price increase has been largely driven by the ongoing global supply challenges, including the impact of the conflict in Iran, which has caused a shortage of essential inputs.

In an official statement released on April 2, NASPAWAP explained that these international market disruptions have made it increasingly difficult for producers to maintain previous price levels. As a result, the ex-factory price for a bag of 30 sachets (500ml each) will now be set at GH¢8, with the ex-truck price rising to GH¢10. The maximum retail price has been pegged at GH¢15 per bag.

NASPAWAP has called on distributors, retailers, and consumers to adhere to the new pricing guidelines, emphasizing that the adjustment is necessary to sustain production and ensure the continued availability of safe drinking water. The association also reassured the public that these price changes are critical to managing the rising costs of production while maintaining the high quality of sachet water.

Consumers and businesses alike are expected to feel the impact of this increase, as the price of sachet water is a key factor in daily life for many Ghanaians, particularly in urban areas where it remains the most affordable option for drinking water.
