The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has announced that the President of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who also serves as the Chairman of Authority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), will be the Special Guest of Honour at the GHALCA President Cup 2023. The event, which will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, March 5, 2023, will also be attended by Ghana President Nana Akufo Addo.
The GHALCA President Cup 2023 will feature a league match between fierce rivals Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. The organisers have opted for this format due to fixture congestion, which has received widespread support. If the match ends in a draw, the winner will be determined by a penalty shootout.
The two clubs will receive cash prizes, medals, and a trophy, and officials of both teams have agreed to the new format. This initiative will not only celebrate the Ghanaian leader but also bring together ECOWAS member states in the spirit of sportsmanship.
