A devastating incident in Assin Adubiase, a community in the Assin South District of the Central Region, has left residents in shock following the alleged death of 42-year-old Yaa Kyeiwaa at the hands of her husband, Agya Adu, over a dispute at a funeral.
According to reports, the altercation began when Yaa Kyeiwaa refused to serve her husband food after making a donation on his behalf at the funeral. This disagreement reportedly escalated into physical violence, culminating in the untimely death of Yaa Kyeiwaa.
In a shocking turn of events, Agya Adu is said to have attempted suicide after realizing the consequences of his actions. However, bystanders intervened, preventing the suicide attempt.
A committee member of Assin Adubiase, Nana Antwi, shared with Rich FM and Angel News’ Kwame Owusu Asante Shadrack that the deceased’s daughter recounted the tragic events, shedding light on the circumstances leading to her mother’s death.
This is not the first instance of domestic abuse involving the couple. According to Nana Antwi, Agya Adu had a history of physically assaulting his wife, often fueled by accusations of infidelity. Despite several interventions by community leaders, the violence persisted.
Meanwhile, the Assemblymember for the Assin Adubiase electoral area, Hon. Obed Adu Sarkodie, revealed that the deceased had been battling high blood pressure. He noted that while her medical condition might have contributed to her death, the history of consistent beatings from her husband cannot be ignored.
Hon. Sarkodie urged women facing domestic violence to prioritize their safety and seek help from authorities or support systems.
As of the time of filing this report, no official complaint has been lodged with the police regarding the incident. The community is calling for justice while mourning the tragic loss of Yaa Kyeiwaa.
This heart-wrenching case underscores the need for continuous education on domestic violence and the importance of creating safe spaces for victims to report abuse.
