The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has expressed disappointment over the state of development in Sekondi-Takoradi under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration.
He assured residents that his next government would make significant investments in the region and complete all unfulfilled projects, including those initiated by President Akufo-Addo, such as the unveiling of a statue of himself.
Mahama emphasized that both his government and previous NDC administrations had made substantial investments in Sekondi-Takoradi.
However, he blamed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for hindering further progress, accusing the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government of underperformance and spreading false promises.
“The NDC government constructed phases one and two of the Bosomtwi Fishing Harbour in Sekondi, we expanded the Aboadze Thermal plant’s capacity, and we developed the Kojokrom to Takoradi Railway line. We also completed Phase One and Two of the Takoradi Port Expansion.
“We introduced a lot of petroleum companies, including operationalising two new oil fields. We fixed all the roads within Takoradi and a lot of jobs on the Takwa roads but after eight years, Sekondi-Takoradi is in a sorry state.
“This is because some parties don’t care about development but buying votes during elections. However, we now know them for their deceit. All around the world, high-performing Presidents get honoured sometime after their term in office, but for this President, he got a statue raised for himself before leaving. Meanwhile, all the projects for which he got the statue have not been completed. It is my NDC government that will come to complete it”, he said.
President Mahama at his Kwesimintsim Constituency Durbar introduced the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman whom he described as a hardworking person with a good heart who needs to be supported to come to parliament to support his next government.
The NDC flagbearer used the first day of his three-day campaign tour of the Western Region to visit nine out of the 17 constituencies of the Western Region and will be visiting five more on his Day-2 tour of the region including Mpohor, Ellembelle and Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituencies.
