On Monday, April 3, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) National Executive Committee (NEC) met with the National Council to discuss the dates of the ruling party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
In order to elect the new flagbearer, it was decided to hold a National Congress on Saturday, November 4.
The meetings gave their approval for this.
A Special Electoral College election will be place on Saturday, August 26 to whittle down the field of contenders to five if there are more than five before then.
Nonetheless, candidates who are interested must choose nomination forms starting on Friday, May 26.
On June 24, a closure date has been set.
Beginning on Thursday, June 16, nominations for parliamentary candidates in districts without an NPP representative will be accepted.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, July 14.
The orphan constituencies’ primaries, as the party refers to them, will take place from Tuesday, August 1 through Saturday, December 2.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, primaries will be place in the districts that NPP MPs represent.
The National Council further prohibited MMDCEs, National, Regional, and Constituency party executives from running for office in Congressional districts where the party currently has members in office.
