The Founder and President of the Brunuli Ulcer Victims Aid Foundation (BUVA Foundation), Mr. Emmanuel Jackson Aguma, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Canada, has restored a dilapidated five-unit classroom block in the Abonsrakrom community within the Dormaa Central municipality. This facility is now intended to serve as a Technical and Vocational Training Centre, with the goal of enriching artisanal skills and fostering employment opportunities for the youth of Abonsrakrom and its surrounding areas.
Speaking to GIFTs News following the official commissioning and handover of the classroom blocks and additional equipment intended to enhance technical and vocational education, Mr. Emmanuel Jackson Aguma recounted that the BUVA Foundation visited Ghana, specifically Abonsrakrom, six years ago. Their mission was to conduct video presentations and raise awareness about Buruli Ulcer, Leprosy, and Yaws, which captured the attention of the traditional leaders. Consequently, the chief requested a library for the community. Upon its delivery, he further appealed to the foundation to construct and furnish classrooms for a Technical and Vocational Training Centre which has also been delivered.
He added that there have been a series of discussions among the Nananom of Abonsrakrom, the BUVA Foundation, and the Dormaa Central Education Directorate to ensure that it receives proper recognition from the education directorate. This recognition aims to streamline its activities to accommodate students in the coming years.
When inquired about the school’s management body, Mr. Emmanuel Jackson Aguma observed that the government alone cannot address the educational and infrastructural deficits. Consequently, there is a necessity for NGOs to provide support. He mentioned their collaboration with leaders and authorities of TVET to ensure the government incorporates the facilities to offer contemporary technical and vocational training, thereby broadening the students’ future prospects. He stated that they are coordinating with the government through the municipal education directorate to staff the school adequately, transforming it into a comprehensive educational institution.
On her part, Nana Abena Achiaa, the Queen Mother of Abonsrakrom, on behalf of Nananom, conveyed her profound gratitude to the BUVA Foundation and the Rotary Club of Canada for their invaluable support in advancing technical and vocational education within the community.
She vowed to collaborate diligently with her elders to guarantee the school’s success pleading with members of the community to patronize the school.
