Panic gripped Wa Islamic Senior High School after fire swept through a girls’ dormitory, destroying belongings and leaving many students displaced. Confirming the incident, Headmaster Al-Hassan A. Bafara said no injuries or deaths were recorded. The school has asked affected students to go home for now, while others are being housed in classrooms.

For the third consecutive time, the girls’ dormitory of Wa Islamic Senior High School has been hit by fire. Previous incidents were recorded in January 2020 and February 2020. The latest occurred on Sunday, August 2nd at about 7:30 PM.
138 students were affected and 6 rooms in the girls’ dormitory were destroyed.
According to the Headmaster, Al-Hassan A. Bafara, he was about to leave the school premises when the fire started.
He added that students who were badly affected have been asked to go home temporarily, while others have been relocated to classrooms.
The Wa Municipal Fire Commander, DO 3 Imuran Iddrisu, also spoke about the incident.
Meanwhile, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Issah Nurah Danwanaa, together with NADMO officials, visited the school to assess the extent of the damage.
