The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has presented a one-year performance assessment of the Assembly, highlighting significant achievements and ongoing developmental initiatives.
Speaking on key projects, Hon. Kannin disclosed that the Assembly has embarked on 19 infrastructural projects aimed at transforming the municipality.
Notable among these are the construction of three Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and the rehabilitation of the Obuasi Health Centre to improve healthcare delivery.
She further indicated that the Assembly has renovated pavements and refurbished several office spaces that were previously in deplorable condition, thereby creating a more conducive working environment for staff and stakeholders.
Education as a Top Priority
Education remains a central focus of the Assembly’s development agenda.
Hon. Kannin emphasized her commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the municipality to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
She expressed optimism about her mandate and reaffirmed her dedication to restoring the Assembly’s image while ensuring effective and responsive local governance.
Active Leadership and Community Engagement
Addressing public perceptions about the role of a Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kannin clarified that her responsibilities extend beyond receiving reports from officers.
She stressed that active field engagement and direct interaction with community members are crucial components of effective local governance.
Fight Against Illegal Mining
Touching on natural resource management, she noted that Ghana is endowed with abundant mineral wealth and urged citizens to safeguard these resources for future generations.
She expressed concern about the growing menace of illegal mining (galamsey) in the municipality.
However, she assured residents that the Assembly is collaborating closely with security agencies to clamp down on perpetrators.
Hon. Kannin commended the establishment of the Blue Water Guard initiative as a significant step toward combating illegal mining activities.
Commendation for National Leadership
Hon. Kannin also praised H.E. John Dramani Mahama for his leadership and efforts toward rebuilding Ghana’s economy.
She called on citizens to support his agenda of resetting the economy and promoting agribusiness development.
According to her, despite the challenges inherited from the previous administration, the current government remains committed to restoring Ghana to a path of growth and stability.
Assembly Fetes School Children
Meanwhile, the Assembly welcomed a group of school children who paid a courtesy call to familiarize themselves with its operations.
The visit formed part of efforts to educate young people about local governance and civic responsibility.
Hon. Kannin urged the children to take their education seriously and strive to become productive members of society.
“As a mother, and together with the many women in this municipality, it is a warm privilege to welcome our gallant future leaders,” she remarked.
She expressed appreciation for their visit and encouraged them to return for more educational engagements in the future.
