In an exclusive interview with Emerepa TV’s Wano Wano, former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi declared that he has no intention of returning to manage Ghana football. Citing the controversies and challenges that marred his previous tenure, Nyantakyi made it clear that his chapter with the GFA is firmly closed.
Nyantakyi’s leadership of the GFA came to an abrupt end in 2018 following allegations of bribery and corruption, culminating in his resignation and subsequent ban from football-related activities. Reflecting on those events, Nyantakyi described his ordeal as nothing short of devastating. “What they did to me was more than killing someone with a gunshot,” he lamented.
Despite the trauma, Nyantakyi remains proud of his legacy, pointing to Ghana’s remarkable performance in the 2010 FIFA World Cup as a career highlight. Under his stewardship, Ghana became the third African team to reach the quarterfinals, etching the nation’s name into global football history.
“Everything that happened was part of God’s plan,” he remarked, attributing both the highs and lows of his tenure to divine will. “I believe God used me to achieve great things during my time at the GFA.”
When quizzed about a potential return to football management, Nyantakyi revealed he has no interest in returning to local football governance. However, he hinted at the possibility of contributing to the sport on a broader scale. “If there’s an opportunity to work with CAF or FIFA, I might consider it,” he noted.
Kwesi Nyantakyi’s revelation puts to rest any speculation of a comeback to the GFA, while leaving the door open for a future role in global or continental football administration. His reflections serve as both a cautionary tale and an inspiring story of resilience in the face of adversity.
