Michael Afrane, a Kumawood actor and politician, is perplexed as to why some people attribute the decline of the Kumawood movie industry to “Dumsor” – irregular electricity supply – and the reconstruction of the Kejetia Market during the previous John Dramani Mahama administration. Although Afrane acknowledges that electricity supply has stabilized since 2017 and the modernization of the Kejetia market is complete, he believes these factors alone are insufficient to revive the industry. He suggests that the root causes of the industry’s collapse were not adequately addressed, and instead, politicians wrongly blamed the previous administration for the industry’s failure.

Afrane goes on to say that some actors who campaigned against Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) now regret their actions because they believe President Nana Akufo-Addo has not fulfilled his promises to support the movie industry. According to Afrane, despite numerous assurances from Akufo-Addo, his government has failed to assist the movie industry, which has forced some actors to campaign against Mahama.
