Mawuse Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a prominent lawyer and convener of the #FixtheCountry movement, has emphasized that making a positive impact on people does not necessarily require holding a political office. According to him, he has made more of a difference as an activist than many Members of Parliament, and challenging the abuse of power can be more impactful than wielding power itself.
Barker-Vormawor expressed his disappointment when people suggest he should run for Parliament to make a difference, stating that making a difference is about values and determination rather than wielding power. He noted that he has been able to make a significant impact as an ordinary activist and that political power is not a prerequisite for making a positive impact.
Barker-Vormawor gained prominence in 2021 for mobilizing and advocating for the demands of Ghanaian youth through the #FixtheCountry movement. The movement has since evolved into a non-partisan civic movement, and Barker-Vormawor is recognized as one of the lead convenors and leaders. The movement has been instrumental in organizing protests against economic challenges and highlighting governance issues in Ghana.
