The Ghanaian football community is still in mourning following the tragic death of Christian Atsu, who lost his life in a devastating earthquake in Turkey on February 6, 2022. The former Chelsea player’s lifeless body was discovered 12 days after being trapped under rubble.

John Mensah, who captained the Black Stars before Atsu joined the national team, has paid his respects to the fallen star. Despite never playing with Atsu, Mensah spoke highly of the winger’s character.

“Christian Atsu was respectful and humble. I didn’t play with him, but I saw him a couple of times. What happened was sad and unfortunate. We send our condolences to the family and assure them of our support. Every Ghanaian is hurt by the development, and we send our regrets to the family,” Mensah said during his visit to Atsu’s family.

Atsu had a successful career with the Black Stars, making 65 appearances and scoring nine goals for the national team. The Ghanaian state, together with Atsu’s family, is preparing for his final burial and funeral.
