Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has expressed his disappointment over the exclusion of movie industry stakeholders from a recent World Cup fundraising event.
Lilwin voiced his frustration with former President John Mahama and the Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Iddie Adams, for failing to invite key figures from the film industry to the event. He believes that the decision to leave out such influential personalities was a missed opportunity to enhance the fundraising effort.
He further highlighted the growing dissatisfaction surrounding the Black Stars, pointing out that some of the players’ actions have led many Ghanaians to lose interest and confidence in the team. Lilwin mentioned, “Because of certain behaviours, people are no longer excited about watching the Black Stars, even though we still want them to succeed.”
As Ghana prepares for the World Cup, Lilwin stressed the importance of involving all sectors of the entertainment industry in supporting the team. He noted that, just as the music industry plays a significant role in national events, the movie industry also has a number of influential figures who could contribute meaningfully to the cause.
The actor described the exclusion as “not fine,” emphasizing that the movie industry has consistently supported the nation and deserves to be included in such significant events. Lilwin concluded by stating that it would have been more appropriate for both President John Mahama and the sports minister to recognize the movie industry’s importance and include them in the fundraising activities, especially at this crucial time for the Black Stars.
