The Ghana Police Service in the Bono East Region has returned a bag containing GHC 85,000 to its rightful owner after it was discovered on the Techiman–Kumasi Highway.
According to a statement, at about 4:20 a.m. on February 14, 2026, officers on duty at a snap check point noticed a bag lying by the roadside, believed to have fallen from a moving vehicle.
The officers, led by Inspector George Appiah, retrieved the bag and found it contained a large sum of money. The bag had the name “Ofori” and a phone number written on it, which enabled the police to begin tracing the owner.
The number was contacted, and a 53-year-old businessman, Stephen Ofori from Ashtown in Kumasi, identified himself and later reported to the checkpoint to claim the money.
Mr. Ofori explained that the cash was being transported from GCB Bank, Wa, to Kumasi aboard a commercial vehicle.
Police verified the amount in his presence, confirmed it to be GHC 85,000, and released the money to him after satisfactory checks.
The incident has been widely praised as a strong example of professionalism and integrity by the officers involved.
