Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has expressed strong belief in Otto Addo and his technical team’s ability to lead Ghana to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the Black Stars’ failure to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This comes after widespread criticism following Ghana’s unsuccessful bid to qualify for the upcoming AFCON, with calls for changes in the technical team’s structure.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Asante Twum acknowledged the challenges faced by the team but remained optimistic about Addo’s leadership. He pointed out that while the current squad differs from the team that made it to the 2022 World Cup, he is confident that they can rise to the occasion.
“Otto Addo successfully qualified us for the World Cup in Qatar, and that was with the support of Chris Hughton, George Boateng, and Didi Dramani,” he said. “While this time is different, I strongly believe that Otto Addo and his technical team are more than capable of delivering the World Cup qualification.”
Addo’s current backroom staff includes assistants John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann, with Fatau Dauda as the goalkeeper coach.
The Black Stars, currently second in Group I with nine points, are set to face Chad and Madagascar in their upcoming qualifiers as they push to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
