The Ghana Education Service has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that parents and guardians have been directed to pay GH¢1,500 for chop boxes, trunks and other items under the Free Senior High School programme.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the GES described the publication as false and urged parents, students and the general public to disregard the information.

The Service clarified that the Free SHS policy has not been cancelled and that the Director-General has not issued any directive requiring parents or guardians to make payments for chop boxes, trunks or any other items.

GES further explained that the Director-General does not have the authority to cancel the national policy and cautioned the public against making payments to individuals based on the false claims.

The Education Service advised parents, guardians and students to rely only on official communication from authorised GES channels and treat unverified information on social media with caution.

The Service also appealed to individuals and media organisations to avoid circulating false information that could create unnecessary anxiety and confusion among the public.
