President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to construct three new technical universities to boost skills development and address youth unemployment in Ghana. Speaking in Parliament during his 2026 State of the Nation Address, he emphasized that the move will help bridge the country’s skills gap and equip young people with industry-relevant skills.
The new universities will focus on delivering high-quality, practice-oriented training aligned with national development priorities, supporting innovation and industrialization.
In a related initiative, 50,000 housing units will be built for teachers, aiming to improve their welfare and retention, especially in rural areas. The project involves collaboration between the District Assemblies Common Fund, GETFund, and the Ghana National Association of Teachers.
These announcements form part of the government’s efforts to enhance human capital development, reduce unemployment, and drive economic transformation through education and skills training.
